Lawrence E. “Larry” O’Brien, LCSW
Larry earned a MSW from the University of New England in Portland, ME., and quickly attained his LCSW license from the State of Massachusetts. He received a BSW from Bridgewater State University, and an Associate’s degree in Human Services from Cape Cod Community College, along with Certificates, Alcohol/Substance Abuse Counselor I and Alcohol/Substance Abuse Counselor II. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
Social work is a second career, after retiring from the United States Coast Guard. While attending college he has interned and worked as staff at two sober houses. He spent a school year interning and volunteering at Southeast Alternative School in Sandwich, MA. He also worked as a Job Coach for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission and Cape Organization for the Rights of the Disabled.
Since joining Phoenix Rising, he has provided clients with individual substance abuse and mental health therapy. He also is the facilitator for recovery groups.
